Business Development Manager

Our client, a world leader in lab testing have asked Bryan Forrest of the Lock Search Group to assist them in their search for a Business Development Manager to join their team in Toronto, ON.  This role will focus on growing our client’s food testing business (chemistry and microbiological).


  • Identify potential customers and sales opportunities for respective business and achieve sales targets
  • Contribute to strategic marketing plans, marketing materials, and drive complex sale of newly-offered testing services
  • Contribute to development of sales forecasts, budgets / sales plans for respective business unit
  • Provide input to management for achievement of marketing objectives
  • Identify opportunities for growth based on new tactics, strategies, applications, and benefits
  • Initiate and maintain commercial contracts with customers: quotes, proposals, RFIs
  • Acquire information regarding developments in the marketplace and competitive information
  • Deliver detailed sales presentations that outline the laboratory and services offered
  • Maintain up-to-date customer information in the CRM
  • Effectively build industry network/contacts through regular field travel, conference, trade show / convention attendance, customer visits


  • BSc. in a relevant discipline w/ 8+ years’ sales experience
  • Extensive experience and contacts within the food manufacturing sector
  • Understanding of the regulatory / quality frameworks within the food industry
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills to build strong customer relationships as well as work effectively and collaborate internally
  • Bilingualism is an asset in this role
