Operations Manager

Our client is a leading Canadian recycling company that services commercial, industrial and institutional accounts. They are currently looking for an Operations Manager to join their team in North York, ON.  

The Operations Manager will work collaboratively across all levels of the organization, directly managing all Supervisors and overseeing the activities of all Operations employees.  

**Must have experience providing effective leadership in heavy industry/metals industry**

Responsibilities:

  • Plan, assign and direct work for Supervisory staff

  • Communicate job expectations while planning, monitoring, appraising, and reviewing job contributions

  • Ensure that training of new and existing hires is executed and evaluated on a regular basis

  • Promote and ensure job coaching and cross training of employees

  • Review compensation actions and ensure execution of company policies

  • Participate in the interviewing, selection and hiring process as appropriate

  • When necessary, fill in for Supervisor's duties (i.e. vacation / holidays)

  • Manage the overall operations for each site location

  • Ensure effective and successful management of labour, productivity, maintenance, quality control, environmental and safety compliance

  • Serve as a compliance authority representative for regulatory issues and inquiries as appropriate

  • Research, plan and execute new technologies and alternative methods of efficiency

  • Oversee inventory, distribution of goods and facility layout

  • Spearhead succession planning within the departments of each site location

  • Prepare and execute action plans for the implementation of production, productivity, quality and customer service

  • Resolve problems and analyze trends to avoid reoccurrences

  • Provide forecasts for expenditures

  • Serve as a point of contact for issues related to equipment quality, quality assurance, and accidents on site

  • Chair communication sessions regularly to keep Supervisors and employees informed of trends, forecasts, and / or problem areas

  • Liase with other team members, including Managers in different areas of the organization

  • Track, measure and analyze reports related to operations

  • Other duties as required

Qualifications:

  • College / University Degree is preferred

  • 3-5 years of experience as an Operations Manager

  • Waste or metal recycling experience is preferred

  • Experience operating heavy equipment is preferred

  • Ability to prioritize and delegate

  • Ability to multi-task under strict deadlines

  • Strong leadership and time management skills

  • Excellent communication and problem solving skills

  • Highly proficient in MS Office Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Outlook
